Picture of B17 in Mindanao

End of April 1942, the last B17's left Mindanao in front of the Japanese invasion.

Where could I find a picture of such B17 ?

This is obviously in connection with Paul Miller's life evoked in http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=57250

Thanks

GC

Re: Picture of B17 in Mindanao

The (3) B-17s you are seeking participated in the Royce Raid. They were B-17 E models. There are a few "grainy" photos floating around.

41-2421 , "G.I. Issue"
41-2486
41-2447, "San Antonio Rose II"

There is a nice photo of 41-2430 on this link: https://www.aerovintage.com/forum/vi...ad7ea594d68864

and a discussion that perhaps 41-2421 and 41-2447 may have looked similar as they had similar histories.

There are several write-ups that can be found on the web, e.g.:

The airfield used was Del Monte field:

Part of 41-2421 here: http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/galler...2505_installed

A second pic on same website has the B-17E after a muddy landing.

Some reference here too: https://www.ozatwar.com/usaaf/435th.htm

Re: Picture of B17 in Mindanao

Just want to point out that the B-17E and crew shown at the adf-gallery.com.au page is not 41-2421 . . . it is the Frank Bostrom crew, but the plane is 41-2416 and the photo was taken at Townsville in February 1942. Bostrom's crew on the Royce mission was not quite the same.
