Emergency landing on the beach A1+EK (18.1.1944)

Hi all,

On the 18th of January the A1+EK of Hptm. Martin Vollmer (2./KG53) made a emergency landing on the beach. Is this landing documented and can someone provide more information on it. I’m looking for location, cause, crew names.

Their He111 left Kauen, Kowno, Kaunas (Lithuania) around 10:10 for a long distance flight during bad weather. Their destination was Lechstedt (Germany).

Thank you in advance.

Regards, Thomas

Re: Emergency landing on the beach A1+EK (18.1.1944)

Hi Thomas hope your well, been a while since we spoke.

Since nobody else as responded to this I can confirm this incident did occur and is documented in the the flugbuch of a crewman from Vollmer's crew.
All I have is the name Braun, I haven't been able to trace his first name or function but the a/c came down at 15.10hrs at Lochstedt?
I'm sorry but I haven't found anything else amongst the usual sources.
I don't know if Matti has anything from the NVM?

Best regs,
Steve.

No NVM found, because the whole crew seems to be safe.

Hi Gerhard that's excellent news to know his first name and function.
Do you know whether he survived the war?

Best regs,
Steve

Re: Emergency landing on the beach A1+EK (18.1.1944)

Thank you all for your reply.

The source of my question is indeed the FB of Egon Braun.

It is not my first investigation into Vollmer and his crew:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...hlight=Vollmer

Now I know that after Vollmer was WIA* (01.06.1943) he got a new crew when he returned to active service. I’m 99% sure that the crew of Vollmer on the 23.07.1943 was as follows:

FF - Vollmer, Martin (Oblt.)
BO - Gebert, Hans (Fw.) DKiG 22.07.1943
BF - Wöhrle, Hans (Uffz.) DKiG 17.10.1943
BM - Reuther, Hans (Fw.)
BS - Egon Braun (Ogfr.)

I already thought that there would be no NVM record on this landing, but you never know. I wonder if the crew changed or that I would get confirmation on the above crew list.

Regards, Thomas
