Re: Need info about German ace and British POW

Hi there Merlin,

The Luftwaffe pilot might be Josef "Pips" Priller",as Staffelkapitän of 1./JG 26 around October 1941.

Cheers
Marc

Re: Need info about German ace and British POW

Hi Merlin73,
Great pictures, thanks for sharing them.
The RAF officer is Harry Prowse of 603 Squadron. He was shot down on 4th July 41. He is chatting to Rolf Pingel whilst Priller looks on.
Any chance of a better copy of the picture?
Gerry

Re: Need info about German ace and British POW

I got the same photo of Pingel, Priller & Prowse in a batch of I/JG 26 photos a month or so ago. The same photo appeared in Priller's history of JG 26. Priller's 40th kill (if it is him) was Lamberton of 72 Sqn on 14 Jul 41-I have just written about this combat in a recent Britain at War

Re: Need info about German ace and British POW

Hi Merlin and Mark,
Many thanks for posting these great pictures.
Good to see Harry Prowse. I wrote to him a few years ago in Brazil and was fortunate enough to get a reply. I wish I'd been able to send him a copy of this picture.
Many thanks once again
Gerry

Gerry: Did he say anything about his last combat? Reason why I ask is Pingel's intelligence debrief makes mention that it was Flak that got him. I am in touch with his neice by the way
