Friendly-fire incident 602 Squadron 1 August 1941

Did Al Deere ever have to answer for killing a Hurricane pilot of 242 Squadron on this date? The aerial victory appears to have been accepted as a Bf109 by Deere and his biographers but at some point this event was recognised as a friendly-fire incident.
