Ju88 Weather reconnaissance shot down 26 July 1942 over Med

Hi guys

I'm seeking details of a Ju88 from, I believe, a weather-recce unit shot down off North African coast on 26 July 1942.

Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian,

a Ju 88 A-4 of 1.(F)/122 is missing this date, as place is given "Rosetta Estuary",
but the crew of 4 is missing.

Pilot Lt. Gustl. Stich MIA
Beob. Wd.Ass. Heinrich Beysiegel MIA

Michael/Brian

The only problem I have with this is that the prefix code 5M belonged to Wekusta 26. It did not become 6./122 until June 1944!
It was based at Trapani at this time....

Cheers
Stig

In original report unit was given 2.(F)/123 then amended to just FAGr 122.

(Amendment entry L from 11.09.42)

Re: Ju88 Weather reconnaissance shot down 26 July 1942 over Med

Brian, I might add, given that number 1125 is correct, it's full number was 0881125 and code only 5M+E (no fourth letter) and around exactly that number every other aircraft was a D-1. This breaks the rule, so to speak, if there was a rule. Usually the Weather and Recce (Westa, Wek'usta or Fernaufklarungs'Gr.) units got D-1 or D-5 version so one only ponders if it was an D-1, but it happened them units getting an A-4 or even oddball A-14 instead.

cheers
Ed
