Pilot Wolfgang Wielstisch of .6/ JG 27

Does any expert on JG 27 can confirm if this pilot flew with JG 27?
I do not know if it is Wolf or Wolfgang Wielstisch or Vielstisch. I met him in Brazil some 8 years ago when he used to fly gliders and I used to tow them. Well, he flew G-6s to K-4s, seems to have taken part in Bondenplate but was shot down by Spitfires ( So he said...) in 1945 ( he did not tell me when ). He baled out although badly injured and spent almost a year in a Hospital. He is a physicist with PhD and still in good health.
Please, any information about the date he was shot down, the aircraft he flew would be great. I lost my contact with him almost 8 years ago and do not know if he is still alive...
Glad for all
AB

Uffz. Wolf Vielstich

Hello Adriano,

Uffz. Wolf Vielstich from 6./JG 27 was indeed shot down and wounded on 25 Febr. 1945. I can't find any victory credited to him.

Re: Pilot Wolfgang Wielstisch of .6/ JG 27

Hi Nef!
Thanks a lot! Tell me, do you have any data about the serial or codes of his aircraft? As he lives ( if he still alive ) some 150km from my hometown, I intend to make his Bf 109 K on 1/72. Maybe we can trace who shot him down. There are such information on the book you mentioned?
I remember him telling me that if you opened the throttle wide open the Bf 109 would swing 90 degrees and go straight out of the runway...
Well, I would try to trace him again, even if by computer. You said you were interested on JG 27 activities...maybe he can tell you more personally. I will let you konw if I trace him again.
Thanks for the reply!

Re: Pilot Wolfgang Wielstisch of .6/ JG 27

Thanks a lot Robert, this is what I was looking for! Now I can make his aircraft. It seems that he was a visitant Professor at São Carlos-SP. I had the oportunity to tow him up on gliders and talk with him quite a lot. The scar he has on the back of his torsum is something! It seems like a shark bit! But he play table tennis like nobody else, even at 80+...and I saw him swimming once. Amazing!
He told me he had contacted Martin Drewes of III/ NJG 1 also. Well, let´s hope he is still in Brazil.
May you have a nice week and thank you again
A Baumgartner

Re: Pilot Wolfgang Wielstisch of .6/ JG 27

DOES someone who possess the book by PRIEN (Source: J.Prien "Bf109 im Einsatz bei der II/JG27") check the HOUR of Wielstisch loss?
Am trying to match his victor...quite a lot of losses that day.
Any other 6 Staffel loss on the same mission Wielstisch flew? I mean, how many JG 27 machines took-off with him and how many were shot down? There were losses both on the morning and on the afternoon, to RAF Squadrons.
Many thanks to any clarification and further information. I know this is an old thread, but do need that piece of detail.
Thanks
Adriano B.

Re: Pilot Wolfgang Wielstisch of .6/ JG 27

Hey Adriano,

First no mention of time in the loss list in Prien’s book.
The Gruppe flew multiple mission that day: jabojagd & Platzchutz in the area of Rheine / Osnabrück and scores 3 victories:
1. Uffz. Hans Stenglein (5.) a Spitfire at 7:50, 5 km südwestl. Metelen
2. Gefr. Helmut Laub (6.) a Spitfire at 11:23, südl. Hesepe
3. Uffz. Helmut Händel (7.) a Spitfire at 11:45, nordöstl. Osnabrück.

As Uffz. Vieltsch was lost near Osnabrück and his staffel comrade shot down a Spitfire in that area, I would guess he wast lost between 11:00 & 11:45/12:00 hrs?
6.staffel lost also Lt. Wilhelm Hahn in a Bf 109G-14/AS, ge.5; shot down by a fighter and crashed north of Ahaus (WIA);
7.staffel lost 3 pilots one wia and 2 Kia
5.staffel lost 1 pilot wia.
But as no times were mentioned its hard to tell who was lost in which mission.
Hope this helps a little bit.
Kind regards,

Dirk
