226 SQUADRON – FRANCE 1940
Can any Forum members help me identify the airfields used by 226 Squadron during the Battle of France.
The Squadron was based at Rheims between 2 September 1939 and May 16 1940 when it relocated to Faux-Villecerf. It received replacement aircraft on the 17 May. I have a reference taken from the "Battle File" that it was stationed at Sougé (3 June). Other publications state that the Squadron flew home to England from Artins on 15 June. I located Sougé and Artins on an online map and they seem to be extremely close together. The above outline of the Squadrons movements seem to me to be unclear. Can anyone give me dates and locations for this Squadron during the retreat from France? Any help or advice will, of course, be most welcome! Kind regards, Malcolm. |
