La Maddalena Gigant
Are there any updates on the possibility that this wreck will be raised?

Re: La Maddalena Gigant
Hi Vince
personnally I am doubtful, because it would require such a big amount of money to raise it (and a special treatment of the metal after its raising would be necessary to stop the corrosion phenomenon: see the Do217 in England), we would need a very very rich sponsor, and it is probably a wargrave, adding complexity; So, I bet it will stay there. |

Re: La Maddalena Gigant
It was a Do 17 in UK not Do 217. Being thin skinned, little worthwhile would remain apart from such things as engines and undercarriage. Not a worthwhile proposition in my opinion as well

Re: La Maddalena Gigant
Thanks gentlemen. I guess the size of it would also provide extreme logistical problems.

Re: La Maddalena Gigant
It is only a matter of $$$. The main problem is the size of the aircraft. Hangar space is pricey. Then, I cannot comment on condition of the wreck, but if displayed in as found condition, it should be feasible. Treatment of steel is much easier than of light alloys. Making it as new would require junking of all the original stuff, and would be horribly expensive though.
