Looking for photos of He111, V4+DA of Stabstaffel KG1 that FL at Bunde, The Netherlands on 20 April 1940

Hello,

I'm trying to locate high-res photos of this FL He111 down in The Netherlands during the Sitzkrieg:

"20 April 1940: Stabsstaffel KG1 Heinkel He111H-2 (2020). Attacked near Maubeuge by Cpl Cukr, S/Lt Troyes, S/Lt Codet, Adjt Poincourt, Sgt Vie, and Sgt Loï of GC II/3 during photo-reconnaissance sortie between Reims and Paris and chased into Belgium with port engine disabled. Then intercepted over Visé by Gladiators of 1/I/2 flown by Sgt Delorme, Sgt Verpoorten, and Sgt Van den Broeck and eventually belly-landed at Bunde in The Netherlands 11.40 a.m. (Bs) Sonderführer Fritz Stern (Kriegsbildberichter) badly wounded, died next day. (Beo) Lt Paul Lehmann, (Bm) Oberfw Augustin Wutz, (Ff) Fw Hans-A. Kopitz, and (Bf) Uffz Kurt Koschorreck interned. Aircraft V4+DA 100% write-off.
War correspondent Fritz Stern was buried with full military honours at Maastricht four days later.

Can anyone help?

Larry,
Do you have a copy of the book Illusies en Incidenten: De Militaire Luchtvaart en de neutraliteitshandhaving tot 10 mei 1940, by Rob de Bruin et al? 354 pages plus probably another 100 pages of appendices and notes. The event is noted on pages 162 and 163, with two photos of the aircraft (which don't show the markings well), a photo of the surviving crew at Stern's burial, and a side view of the aircraft.

I can't find a publisher (other than apparently official Dutch government), ISBN or date (my copy was inscribed by Rob in 1989).

Perhaps your Dutch colleagues can locate a copy for your files.

Edit: a number of reasonably priced copies can be found at http://used.addall.com/

Enjoy!

Frank.

Franck,

Thanx, I need copies of these for publication and a possible color profile. I hope that some of our many Dutch friends have copies of these--possibly from the Dutch archives. We'll wait and see what develops. In the meantime, I'll see if I have that book in our library.

Your continued support and assistance is appreciated.

Frank,

We do have that Dutch book in our library, so I was able to copy the scans from it. That will be very helpful. Will have to have one of our Dutch colleagues translate the relevant story about it.

Still need high-res images for publication of this a/c. I've visited the main Dutch archives in Amsterdam and the military photo archives at den Haag but I don't find any references to photos of this a/c from those collections. I could be missing something, however.

Hopefully someone on our Dutch research team can help.

Hello,

Please note that two of the names of the french pilots involved are Adjudant Poincenot (not Poincourt) and sous-lieutenant Vié (not Vie).

Regards.

Thanx to both of you for commenting.

Peglar,

I have the full image of that photo in the EoE photo DB. It dates to the Polish Campaign or thereabouts. The Crash in Holland had 1940-style markings and was obviously a later a/c that carried the same coding.

Snautzer,

Promising lead. Will follow up on this.

Still looking for good photos of this incident.
