2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, 405 FG
Hello,
Could somebody know the date of birth of 2nd Lt. Warren E. HUBER from 405 FG (509 FS), KIA on 12nd Dec. 1944 ? Besides, I would be interested with any info about his carreer in the USAF : date of enlistment, units, claims ... Many thanks Pierre |

Quote:
Reginald G. Nolte, who published a 405th Fighter Group history in 1986, said that 2nd Lt. Warren E. Huber was KIA on 9 August 1944 but that his service records could not be located at the Washington D.C. Memorial Records Center nor in the Army Personnel Records at St. Louis. There was a fire at the St. Louis facility in the 1970s, and apparently Huber's file was among those destroyed. He did not provide other information about Lt. Huber. |

Re: 2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, 405 FG
Ok, did a Google serach and found this:
[center]440619 HUBER, WARREN E. P-47C 41-6225 PICKLESCOTT, SHROPSHIRE 495 From the above information, it appears 2nd Lt. Warren E. Hubber was killed in a flying accident on June 19,1944 while training with the 495 Fighter Training Group (FTG) which handled all P-47 conversions for the 8th and 9th AFs. Can anyone confirm this information? He was also from Wisconsin, you could write the Wisconsin Historical Association (online) and ask them. |

Correction. I rechecked another section of Reginald Nolte's Thunder Monsters Over Europe and on p.38 it says: " ... On the 9th of August the 405th FG provided cover for the XX Corps throughout the day, attacking M/T, railroad cars, locomotives, and miscellaneous rolling stock. Lieutenant Warren E. Huber was hit by flak and was reported MIA ... " Unless there is a mistake, it would seem that there was more than one man named Warren Huber who was killed flying P-47s. |

Re: 2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, 405 FG
SHORT-STUFF has the 19/06/44 as a forced landing, with an engine problem. He obvioulsy may have survived this landing and went on to go down in combat on a later date. 41-6225 Atterrissage forcé le 19/06/44 vers Picklescot/Shropshire (GB) - Pilote : Warren E. Huber - Défaillance moteur |

Re: 2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, 405 FG
To TonyK, Six Nifty and Kaki 3152,
Thank you very much for your replies. I think the main question is : "is 2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, from 405 Sqdn, who did an emergency landing on 9th of August 1944 close to Angers, West of France, the same man that 2/Lt. Warren HUBER, from 495 FGT, who did ... an emergency landing at Picklescott, Shropshire, UK, on 19th of June 1944 ?" Additional info about Lt. HUBER who crashed close to Angers on 9th of Aug. 1944 : - his service number was : 0-815341 - he was a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Thanks again Pierre |

Re: 2/Lt. Warren E. HUBER, 405 FG
Hi,
Many Thanks for your reply. I presume the MACR 11001 corresponds to the last mission of Lt HUBER (12.12.1944), and not to his belly landing close to Angers dated 09 August 1944 .. Can you confirm ? Many thanks Pierre |
