Civilian Battle of Britain pilot gets kill ?
Just found reference to a civilian test pilot flying a experimental cannon armed Hurricane for Langley Defence flight who on 21st October "bumped" into a Dornier 17 and rather than leave it to his service colleagues took it on leaving it damaged and loosing height.
The civilian pilot was called Mr T B Fitzgerald and the combat took place at 11.15 near Henlow. Does anyone know if the DO17 got home? What colour scheme would the Hurricane have been in, as it was from an experimental team? |

Re: Civilian Battle of Britain pilot gets kill ?
The Hurricane would have been in standard camouflage of the period, carrying roundels and serial but no unit or individual markings. I believe that there is at least one photo showing a Langley Defence Flight aircraft.

I believe this is a misunderstanding. Please read Wynn's "Men of Battle of Britain" about S/L T.B. Fitzgerald RNZAF, who was a test pilot at Hawker.
