corrections and additions on volume II JG 300 history

At first ... it's an fascinating and well done book. I think it's hard (or impossible?) to write an third JG 300 history. It's an book full of interesting facts and stories, in an excellent quality.

But from view of "Erla" I have to do some corrections and additions:

p.166
The designation "G-10/ASM" in the strenght box (or "G-10D" in the loss list) irritate because this wasn't an official designation. Maybe it was used in GQM lists but it had nothing to do with an factory designation.

p.194
The W.Nr. of the colour scheme is in contradiction to the description on p.204. Maybe it was inspired by the newest colour scheme of Mr. Poruba, maybe not .... fact is the W.Nr.151965 is correct. Wrong is the date "January 1945" because the pictures were taken in the End of March/ April 1945 at the earliest.

p.197
The W.Nr.491310 isn't "provisional" but in all probability wrong. The a/c had the features of an "late months 1945" produced Erla G-10 (tall tail wheel, great wing bumps) ...but the W.Nr.491310 left the factory in December 1944.

p.226
I doubt that's an G-14. Have a look on the "umbrella holder" - it's an typical sign of an Trop.-version and the G-14 wasn't produced as "G-14 trop.". I believe it's an old G-6 trop.

loss list

W.Nr. 150 742 was mentioned twice (01.02.45/ 03.02.45) both with 100 %

W.Nr. 191 167 was IMHO W.Nr. 491 167
W.Nr. 154 807 was IMHO W.Nr. 150 807

missing losses:

04.02.45
- W.Nr.150 747, III./ JG 300, crash during the start, later blow up by own troops, 100 %, airfield Märkisch Friedland

09.02.45
- W.Nr. 150 793, III./ JG 300, air combat, 100 %, near Wörlitz (maybe the a/c of Hptm. Fritz Lonzius ?)
- W.Nr. 150 874, III./ JG 300, air combat, 30 %, Stackelitz near Dessau
- W.Nr. 150 844, III./ JG 300, enemy fire, 30 %, Stackelitz near Dessau
- W.Nr. 491 268, I./ JG 300, crash landing, 15 %, unknown
- the a/c from Ofw. Franz Knoll I have: G-10, W.Nr. 150 799

02.03.45
- W.Nr. 151 541, III./ JG 300, air combat, 100 %, near Großenhain

(these only some losses I hadn't the time to check the complete lists in Freiburg)

wrong names of towns

05.12.44, W.Nr. 464 300 it was Burg Stargard and not "Stagard"
02.03.45, W.Nr. 151 554 it was Kranepuhl and not Kranepühl

the airfield was Amberg-Schafhof and not Amberg-Schäferhof

(I checked the Erla-a/c only and not complete)

G-14/AS (in the loss list):
I'm not sure if the W.Nr. 462 787, 461 993, 464 300 were G-14/AS because these a/c's not belonged to the official Erla G - 14/AS batches but .... nothing is impossible...

Best wishes
Rasmussen

Re: Any news on Vol. 2 of JG 300, by Lorant & Goyat?

My copy arrived today in a potato sack with a squashed amazon box...
The book itself has only top right corner damage, but still im not happy about it

Its changed hands too many times in getting to me to even think of finding out who damaged it

Re: Any news on Vol. 2 of JG 300, by Lorant & Goyat?

Not a correction, However the photo on page 306 of Vol II is captioned as being Karl-Heinz Dietsche.....According to his Son Joerg, This is not his Father in the photo. He is not sure at this time who is shown. Do any members have any Idea? A Photo of Karl-Heinz and his brother Horst Can be found on page 243 of Willi Reschke's book.

Re: Any news on Vol. 2 of JG 300, by Lorant & Goyat?

Regarding los list (mentioned W.Nr.150 742 - posting from 10th August 2007):

Wrong is Uffz. Alfred Kuhnle (loss date 01.02.1945) with W.Nr. 150 742 because his machine was the Bf 109G-10, W.Nr. 490 226.

Re: Any news on Vol. 2 of JG 300, by Lorant & Goyat?

volume 1, p. 342:
caption "Ofw. Lothar Sachs pictured here in September 1943 at Pomssen on the wing of Bf 109G-4 'Yellow 29' of the Wilde Sau school JG 110, ..." is incorrect because the JG 110 was installed on October 15, 1943 --- to this date was it the BFS 10

Best wishes
