What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
In the "Baulosaufteilung Me 109 G lt. Programm v. 18.8.44" compiled at Regensburg on 4 Sept. 44, it stated that of the 2403 G14s being built, 835 would be G-14s, 200 would be G-14s without MW 50, and 1368 would be 109 G14 ASs.
So, what would a G-14 without MW 50 be, especially since the G-14 was simply a G-6 with a DB 605 AM engine and an MW 50 installation? |

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
Hi!
"G-14" was a term given to the G6 with MW50 but NOT necessarly with the AM engine...from what I recall. JaPo's book also states "G-14 is a G6 with MW50", but nothing referencing the engine type. So...G-14 with NO MW50, most likely had the 605A engine? ...which of course would make it a regular G6...unless of course these 200 or so "G-14" birds were to have the most advanced features not common to all G6 (bigger rudder, longer tail wheel strut, erla haube, etc.) Thoughts? |

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
IIRC Rasmussen said once that those G-14 sans MW50 were built with the purpose of becoming trainers...?

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
So to say... a "G-14 w/o MW-50" is a late G-6 with the battery at the rear part of the cockpit ... and maybe some other standardizations of the G-14.
BTW: Thanks for the info on the division into different subtypes of G-14 ! Do you also have this for other factories? |

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
My vote would be for a standard G-14 but intended for some mission-dedicated model, e.g. photo-reconn (G-14/R2) where the MW tank might hinder access to a large camera.

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
Quote:
It can be verified that all the G-14s of the listing belonging to the 4643xx and 4644xx batches were devoid of methanol injection. The same applies on a later listing with new arrivals (the complete document is included in our latest book on the ANR C&M published by Classic). So, if the "Baulosaufteilung" report them as "G-14s without MW 50", why consider them differently?

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
Thank you all for your responses. I wonder, however, if the aircraft would still carry the more highly stressed DB 605AM engine, or would it revert to the DB 605A engine?
Again, thank you very much, George |

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
What is an AM engine anyway? I tend to believe its just a regular DB 605A, with an M suffix to designate there are pipes and settings for MW50 boost. Or am I totally wrong..?
Can any of the DB experts shed light on the differences between A and AM perhaps?

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
It is indeed the only difference:
DB 605 A without WM injection 1475 HP. DB 605 AM with WM injection 1800 HP. Norbert |

Re: What is a 109 G14 without MW 50?
Norbert is correct but there is one additional item. The AM engine required C3 fuel whereas the standard A-engine used B4 aviation fuel.
