15 October 1940 combat

Hi,

I'm looking for informations of combat between 229 and 302 Squadrons and two formations of Bf 109s on 15 October 1940. The Northolt Squadrons took off before 10 a.m. with order of patrol Biggin Hill area. They were attacked by Bf 109s and claimed 3-0-2 but lost two injured pilots (Co of 229 Sqn nad NCO from 302 Sqn). Who were their opponents?

All the best

Greg

Lt Wilhelm Wiesinger of Stab II./JG 27 claimed a Hurricane near Bethersden at 1115 hrs (German time) whilst Oblt Erbo Graf von Kageneck got a Spitfire south of Maidstone at 1107 hrs. Finally Uffz. Erhardt Scheidt of 1./JG 26 got a Spitfire near Maidstone at 11.25. These appear to be the only claims around the 1000-1030 hrs UK time. No 109s crashed on land around these times

What about Oblt. Deicke (8./JG 27)? He baled out in those time and in RAF reports of fthis combat pilots said they saw baled out airman without maewest jacket on it. Is it possible he was this shot down pilot? And there was another lost of JG 27 - Fw. Freis but I don't know the time of his flight.

Re: 15 October 1940 combat

Hi,

Polish squadron took part in combat with elements of the first wave of II.(S)/LG2 (20 Jabos, time of the combat mission: 10.15-11.30 hrs) and JG26 (21 Jabos) against London. Only one Jabo was hit by enemy fighters and crashed on landing at Calais-Marck airfield. Jabos of II.(S)/LG2 were escorted by 35 Bf109Es of JG27 and I`m not able now to check if they were any losses suffered by JG27 during this action.

Regards

Robert

Re: 15 October 1940 combat

Thanx for answers but the question is: the time of Deicke's lost is from Luftwaffe documents or "Battle of Britain then and now" (p. 685)? I asking because there can be a mistake in the book maybe.

Regards

Greg
