Hypothetical queries

Hi guys

Hypothetical queries

If, say, a pilot officer had been awarded a DFC but then committed a serious offence that led to his court martial and loss of commission, would he still be entitled to wear the DFC as an NCO?

If, say, a sergeant-pilot had been awarded a DFM but then committed a serious ofence that led to him receiving a reduction in rank, would he still be entitled to wear the DFM as an Aircraftman 2nd Class or whatever?

IIRC, in Tuck's so-called autobiograpy, it is mentioned that one or two NCO pilots of 257 Squadron failed to complete operational sorties on more than one occasion during the Battle of Britain. Tuck apparently threatened to shoot them! Instead they were reduced to lowest rank but allowed to keep their flying brevet. It was reported that one was last seen cleaning the tiolets!

Do we accept this really happend? If so, who were the unfortunate pilots? Did they receive their Battle of Britain clasps?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Hypothetical queries

Brian,

I believe the one who made an excuse was reduced to the ranks, the other was allowed to carry on flying, according to the book anyway,

All the best for 2010.
