Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

Can anyone confirm the attached image shows Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer?

The image was taken in May-1942 during the funeral for 2 flieger from Stab/Kampfgeschwader 2.

Any help as always will be very well recieved indeed.

Regards Richard.

Re: Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

Surely he was Gr Kdr of II/KG 40 in May 42 as he was lost 24-25 Jun 42 in F8+AC?

Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

Dornier Do-217E-4 ‘U5+AA’ (Werk Nr: 1186) of Stab/Kampfgeschwader 2 was crewed by the following on a raid over Norwich on 29/30-April-1942, as part of the 'Baedeker Raids':

Flugzeugführer: Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer
Flugzeugbeobachter: Unteroffizier Paul Ubrich
Bordfunker: Unteroffizier Hermann Schiffer
Bordmechanik: Unteroffizier Alfred Kawullok

Schiffer and Kawullok were killed in the aircraft and the image I attached in the first post is from their funeral ceremony. Consequently, I asked the question whether the Hauptmann was indeed z. Drewer.

Regards Richard.

Re: Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

I am puzzled as he took over from Hptm Wendt Frhr von Schlippenbach as Gr Kdr of II/KG 40 when he went missing 7-8 Apr 42 so why was he still with KG 2 and apparently flying the Gesch Komm's ac? No doubt Larry or Doug will advise! As to who the chap is in the photo, no idea!

Re: Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

From our files:

HÖRNER zu DREWER, Waldemar. 04.42 Hptm., appt Kdr. II./KG 40 (to 25.06.42 MIA).

Checking with Balke (KG 2), there is no mention of the fellow. Ramsey's Blitz Vol.3 mentions nothing either. It would appear the the Stab/KG 2 connection is purely erroneous.

Baring some new input, this appears to be the only possible conclusion.

Hauptmann Waldemar Hörner zu Drewer

Chris and Doug

Thank you for replies.

I originally asked the question of the loss report for this aircraft on the link below:

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=27605

Consequently, that is why I asked about z. Drewer as from this he was listed as the Flugzeugfuhrer of the aircraft.

Any help whatsoever in unravelling this will be very well recieved indeed.

Regards Richard.
