He 111 H-16 WNr. 162181 A1+HT of 9./KG 53 loss on 5 January 1945

Hello,

I would like to know the names of the crew of the He 111 H-16 WNr. 162181 A1+HT of 9./KG 53 that was shot down over Husum airfield in the evening of 5 January 1945 by a Mosquito of 406 Sqn RCAF flown by Wg Cdr Russ Bannock (that was his 7th victory).

The Heinkel was flown by Hptm. Siegfried Jessen (Staffelkapitän) and four other crew, all being killed according to my sources.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Laurent

I have written about this in Flypast and have all of Jessen's photos, documents and Flugbuch. His crew were in addition Ofw Alfred Beyer (B), Uffz Wolfgang Gast (Bf), Fw Hermann Fresken (BS) & Uffz Gerhard Franke (BS). I also have Bannock's side of the story and photos and accounts from the other crew which saw Jessen being shot down before they had engine problems and crashed

Thanks a lot Chris,

Can you tell me which numero of Flypast your article was ? I will be interested in details about the second crew too. I guess it was Fw. Erich Schulz and crew of 9./KG 53.

I am afraid I cannot say what number it was as it was so long ago. There was another loss that night, Lt Kurt Neuber & crew from 7 Staffel but the cause is unknown. The accident was Fw Erich Schulz of 9/KG 53 which crash landed at Westerlangstedt
