erganzungsgruppe or erganzungstaffel

Hello, I am researching Luftwaffe aircraft and crew losses from 22nd June 1940to 22nd June 1941. I have got all the losses of Luftwaffe Losses from the microfilm copies at the Imperial War Museum in London, but it has come to my attention that not ALL losses are included in these records. In particular, not all losses from erganzungsgruppe or erganzungstaffel are mentioned. I know these are training groups or squadrons used before joining operational Units, but cannot understand why these losses are not included in the Luftwaffe Losses? Can anyone tell me a list of erganzungsgruppe and erganzungstaffel being used in 1940/1941, and where I can find out a list of all the losses suffered in aircraft and aircrew for this same period?

There are separate records for losses in training formations which I think are held at the Bundesarchiv in Freiburg but someone else here will have more information on exactly what and where they are.

Re: erganzungsgruppe or erganzungstaffel

Question is incorrect. Erg.Staffeln / Gruppen are in normal Fliegende Verband seres, because they usually were not formed untill late 1940 or early 1941. The other series is the "Schulen und Sonstige", orderable from BA-MA (I bought these via SELKE and got and paid twice .. sic) and are from autum 1940, but into September 1944. One report in this is from 1945.. so they were made to the end, so to speak. -Ed

Rémi

Yes, one (uno) except if it is typo, in Verband 1945 series, if I remember correctly.

Before (August 40) they possibly appeared in Schulen.
Or were too small for Verband, occational crashes are missing from Verband.
Maybe they are just reports that got lot in the system, or mail was destroyed.

Re: erganzungsgruppe or erganzungstaffel

Hello Srob,

I'm not an expert concerning your research but, at least, you can check the following site and scroll all units one by one to discover all Erg.Gr. and Erg.Sta. you need....
http://www.ww2.dk/

As for losses: Dr. Jochen Prien publications (I.e. JFV, JG3 and so on ...) are full of losses but only fighter units and some Schlacht unit; II.(S)/LG2. Indeed it's not complete.

That's all I can do for you.

Best regards, Franck.

PS: BTW I suppose you are welcome in this forum
