French Spitfires claims on 29 September 1943

According to most sources the French Spitfires claimed three Ar196 and four Ju52 on this date. The Lw lost two Ar196 to Spitfires East of Bastia but it is the later combat that I am interested in. The LW actually lost two Ju52 of III/TG2 (according to HMAW).

The French Spitfires claim four Ju52 destroyed from a formation of seven and presumably the other three were probables/damaged. HMAW gives a total of five destroyed and two probables. The extra kill being awarded to ADC Jean Dugoujon

My notes state that the confirmed claims were by Adj Michel Martin, Cne Gilbert Prayer, SGC Jean Sarrail and Cne Roger Duval. The unconfirmed claims are less clear. According to HMAW Sarrail claims two probables. My notes indicate that Sarrail claimed a probable but the second was credited to Duval, Prayer and Ltt Felix Brunet. In addition at least one was awarded as a damaged to Duval and Sgt Martin.

regards

Keith
