MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

Good evening Gentlemen,

the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 is such a good-looking plane.
One of the more succesful pilots is G. Chiber from India, who scored twice in 1999. Can anybody tell me his first name ?

Cheers,

Michael

Leendert will become famous soon enough
Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

It seems he (Chibber) claimed 2 x PAF F-16s in 1999.

Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

Good afternoon Leendert,

that's interesting.
He seems to be the only Indian pilot who scored in the MiG-29:

Have a nice weekend,

Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

The current war has provided us with a borderline MiG-29 ace: Vadim Voroshilov has shot down 5 UAV's and 2 cruise missiles, so far.

Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

According to Kargil 1999 by Sanjay Badri-Maharaj (and also in the link posted by Luc Vervoort) FlLt Gaurav Chibber only acquired a lock on two Pakistani F-16s and drove them away, while escorting Mig-27 strike package.
Looks like translation/interpretation error that echoed through the internet...

Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

Hello Goran,

this website
https://migflug.com/jetflights/the-c...rently-in-use/
indicates the MiG-29 scored a total of only 6 kills (by 2018): 2 Brothers in Rescue incident (Cuba), 3 Ethiopian-Eritrean War (Eritrea), 1 Georgian border violation 2008 (Russia). Are the dates and the names of the scorers known?

Cheers,

Michael

Re: MiG-29 - Mr. Chiber

Hello Michael

According to Ethiopian-Eritrean Wars vol.2 by Fontanellaz & Cooper, Eritrean Mig-29 haven't shot down anything. Ethiopian Su-27s shot down 2 and damaged 1 out of 6 delivered Erithrean Migs. Out of 4 Eritrean pilots, 2 were killed and 1 imprisoned for voicing his dissatisfaction to Eritrean command.

In Badme war, there was a lot of overclaiming on both sides, because they both used "tactics" of launching long range R-27s at maximum range (+ the Ukraine/Russia missiles were old and not maintained properly)

Good morning Goran,

that's interesting. Currently, the Ukrainians use MiG-29's. Have you heard anything about their achievements ?

Best greetings,

Michael
