Messerschmitt Bf 109 with Serial # 2279 ?

Hi All,

a friend of mine told me about a data plate he found at a crash site with the number 2279.
This plate was not fixed at a part or even fuselage but it was just fixes inside the fuselage by a wire. So he beleives it has to do with the serial number.

If a Bf 109 have existed, what is the fate of the plane?

My friend beleives it flew in JG 53.
I cannot say more as I have no other details.

Thanks a lot in advance
Rolf

Can be a Bf 109 D-1, though.
Where did he find the plate?..
Regards,
Franck.

Re: Messerschmitt Bf 109 with Serial # 2279 ?

Hi Franck,
thanks a lot.
He found the plate in South Germany/Black Forrest.
He beleives it could belong to a crashed 109 end of 1944.

But seems its not the serial number.

Thanks again
Rolf

Data plates and W. Nr. were never attached by a wire.

Re: Messerschmitt Bf 109 with Serial # 2279 ?

Hi All,
Don’t know how to change the header.
Compared other crash’s and serial numbers at same time and because of that, I believe the serial number could have been 462279 instead 2279.
Does this makes sense?
As said, dont know how to change the header. Otherwise I would have changed to the new serial number.
Thanks in advance
Rolf
