Good morning everybody
According to really enormous work of Henry L. deZeng IV and Douglas G. Stankey "Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries" Oblt Zorner and Hptm Milius were appointed Staka 3./NJG3 at the same time. betwine 03.43-04.43. What more on claims list Zorner scored also for 1./NJG3 between 06.43-08.43.

Re: Milius or Zorner

It looks like ZORNER was appointed but was not available until 5 weeks later, so MILIUS took over the Staffel as acting Staka until ZORNER's arrival.

These things often require interpretation and to do that it is very helpful if you have a military background and are intimately familiar with LPA's rules, regulations and procedures governing officer assignments.

The absence of complete Luftwaffe records usually make a definitive conclusion difficult.

MILIUS, Walter.17.03.43 Hptm., appt Staka 3./NJG 3 (to 22.04.43).

ZORNER, Paul.16.03.43 appt Staka 3./NJG 3 (to
08.43).

Re: Milius or Zorner

Hello

Another explanation - rather theoretical than proven by hard evidence - could be, that Milius was temporarily posted to the I./NJG 1 in May, June and July 1943 in order to reinforce this Gruppe because of the Battle of the Ruhr.

In his absence, Zorner could be appointed as representative who runned the Staffel ?

All the best, Marcel

Re: Milius or Zorner

Thank You both Larry and Marcel. I remember that several years ago I I saw a list of the Nachtjagd pilots transfered to NJG1 from other units in the time of the Battle of the Ruhr. I think it was on your old site Marcel, but i don't remember weather Milius was on the list or not. It seems that Zornrer might be busy in 1./NJG3 in those months so Milius was send to command 3./NJG3, however in Larry's work I've found another name:
FERGER, Heinz. (DOB: 02.12.15 in Lötzen). 01.02.41 promo to Oblt. 18.05.43 Oblt., appt Staka 3./NJG 3.
All the best

Re: Milius or Zorner

All

Perhaps of some interest is how Meyer/Stipdonk list these two St Kap in 1./NJG 3

14.12.1942 - 16.3.1943 Hptm Walter Milius (to Staka 2./NJG 3)
18.3.1943 - 18.8.1943 Oblt Paul Zorner (to Staka 8./NJG 3)

No idea of course of their sources for these particular dates...

Cheers
Stig
