Lt. Gerhard Karl JG26 23rd August 43

Hi to all!

For the past year I have been searching for information regarding Lt. Gerhard Karl, who sadly lost his life on the 23.08.1943. Gerhard was flying a Me 109G-6 Wnr.20442 Yellow 15 + on the date in question and is believed to have been shot down by Spitfires over Holland.

Gerhard was born on the 29.01.1922 in Ahlsdorf/Merseberg, unfortunately I have had no luck in tracing any surviving relatives! If anyone has the address of the local paper I could perhaps enquire there. But of course I would be very interested to obtain any information, especially a photo or death card regarding this pilot and his tragic loss on the 23rd August.

Thanks to all in advance.

Melvin

I assume you know he crashed near Hoornaar a small village northwest of Gorinchem and is now buried at Ysselsteyn War Cemetery. He was originally buried in Rotterdam (Crooswijk cemetery).
