B-17G #43-38135 MACR 14193

Dear gents,

does anyone have the MACR 14193 ?

Perhaps anyone have more details where the crew members came down, where 2 was captured etc.

Many thanks,
René

The National Archives has a 23 page MACR:

https://catalog.archives.gov/id/91151270

Fold3 shows a 59 page MACR:

https://www.fold3.com/image/28763565

On a quick glance it appears that possibly fold3 has combined two MACRs (8905? and 14193?)

It looks like the MACR in the National Archives consists of pages 37 to 59 of the fold3 version. I think they missed two pages from the fold3 pages (i.e. pages 1 & 2). Fold3 -Page 1 is a retyped version of the National Archives page 2. Fold3-page 2 is the eyewitness statement of the loss not included in the National Archives version.

Re: B-17G #43-38135 MACR 14193

Many thanks.
I could not find the report under the number 14193. I have not search with 8905.

It would be very interesting where exactly the plane and crew members came down.

Rgds,
René

Re: B-17G #43-38135 MACR 14193

I downloaded the two "missing" pages to complete the MACR on the National Archives.
This link should get you to a Google Drive folder with the missing pages.

You should be able to view/download the two pages from there. You can download any of the National Archive pages from their link.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...HI?usp=sharing

Page 1 gives a last seen (and crash?) location of 50 40N, 13 30E. The target was Aussig marshaling yards. The plane was first hit by ME-262s during the bomb run to the target.

Rene

I found two more "missing" pages of the original MACR. They were located in totally different MACRs. One is the NOK-list (Next of Kin). The other is the very interesting statement of the co-pilot, Glen Howard. I have uploaded them as pages X and Y to the Google Drive mentioned in post #4.

Full crew listed here also (click "Read More") : https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...rd-mccallister

Re: B-17G #43-38135 MACR 14193

Hi Kaczmarek,

this plane was shotdow during the raid on Usti nad Labem (Aussig and der Elbe during WWII) - 19.4.1945. It is my hometown.
There are some links in local language about memorial for the crew of this plane:

http://svla-tp.cz/?page_id=543
http://www.csol.cz/clanky-a-reporty/...usti-nad-labem
https://teplicky.denik.cz/zpravy_reg...-20150602.html
https://letci-zatec.cz/wp-content/up...C3%ADnovec.pdf

Based on the info, this plane was damaged during turning point south of Prague - after emergency release of the bombs this plane continue with the formation on the target. After leaving the target area, the crew began to parachute - based on the info, where the murdered members of the crews was found, same like the captured or death, the machine crashed somewhere between Ústí nad Labem (Czech rep), Cínovec (Czech rep) and Altenberg (Germany) - NNW from Ustí nad Labem.

I thank the contributors to this thread. Among the information was my first encounter with the term "spot jammer," as a countermeasure. Here it is:
