Re: 415 NFS 27 Sep 44

Hello Chris,
Not sure now, but some time ago I came across the claims list for the 415th for September 1944.
(Available in one of the stickies on this site).
It has these claims -
28/09/1944 - Petry, Austin G. F/O.
( for some reason Augspurger does not get a credit this date ?).
30/09/1944 - Augspurger, Harold F. Capt.
30/09/1944 - Petry, Austin G. F/O.
Note I made was for some reason Augspurger's claims for the 27th (FW200) and 29th (He111) were not allowed.
Only other reason could be that there is/was some confusion about the dates due perhaps to the time of the action ? Or there were claims for 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th ?
It was usual for both crew members to receive credits, so the 28th omition could be an old typo error in the list.
Petry shared an earlier claim on 24/07/43 a with Capt. Nathaniel H. Lindsay.

Alex
PS
415th was credited with 11 confirmed victories.
They were -
24/07/1943 - Capt. Lindsay - Petry. Claim He115.
16/08/1943 - F/O. Raison - Lt. Walber. Claim Can't.Z.1007.
07/02/1944 - 1Lt. Horne - 2Lt. Ulrich.
18/03/1944 - Maj. Lindsay - F/O. Petry - Squadrons last Beaufighter claim.
28/09/1944 - Capt. Augsperger - F/O. Petry.
30/09/1944 - Capt. Augsperger - 2Lt. Petry.
27/12/1944 - 1Lt. Gilpin - 2Lt. Clearly.
29/12/1944 - 1Lt. Schlueter - 2Lt. Meier's.(claimed two a/c this date).
01/01/1945 - 1Lt. Schlueter - 2Lt. Meier's.
03/03/1945 - 1Lt. Gilpin - 2Lt. Clearly.

Alex

Alex/Chris

According to Pape/Harrison (Queen of the Midnight Skies) the victory listed by Alex on 28.9.44 is listed by them on the 27th (just like Chris does), and is said to be a Fw 200K.
From that I think we can be fairly certain it was during the night 27/28.9.44.

Looking in the text on page 256 the book quotes from 64th FW history this episode where it clearly can be seen as taken place before midnight. If you don't already have that info Chris, I can scan you the page and send it over.

You can reach me on sjarlevik at telia.com

Cheers
Stig

Thanks Stig and yes please. They got Fw 200 D-2, 0021, D-AMHL at 2031 hrs on 27th near Dijon, the aircraft crashing at Ste Citeaux. Whilst I am on, I have acquired 2 photos of ships sunk at Narvik in May-June 1940. Any interest to you especially if you can identify any

According to Günther Ott, 0019 which was assigned to Dai Nippon became a C-2 NA+WL. 0021 became NA+WN and from Jul 43, D-AMHL 'Pommern' which was the one shot down in this case. Thüringen was a C-4, 0111, D-ASVX
