Time of loss 50 Sqn Lancaster NG302 at Lewedorp 17-18.12.1944?

Dear all,

I am looking for details of the (exact) time when 50 Squadron Lancaster NG302 was mistakenly shot down by 'friendly' ack-ack of 76 AA Royal Artillery at Lewedorp near Middelburg on 17-18 December 1944. Who can help?

Cheers, Theo

Hi Laurent,

Thanks for the link -I noticed the quoted time but this seems a bit strange -22.15 hrs was when the Main Force was busy bombing München. NG302 may have been an early return though.

Cheers, Theo

This was probably local time, and I don't know if it was the same as RAF time.

But an early return flying alone has probably more chance to be fired at by Allied AA than a big stream of bombers. During this period, at the start of the German offensive in the Ardennes, many Allied units noted an heavy Luftwaffe activity.
