Re: JG 77 victories
While looking for something else on allaces.ru, I found the following.
03 August 1942 Journal of Combat Operations of the 284 BAD (TsAMO, F: 20254, O: 1, D: 12, L: 2 page 42 - 43) At 05:50 (Moscow) took off the Pe-2 32 BAP flown by Military AE Commissar Afanasy Vlasenko for a reconnaissance. In the area of Uritskoe, the Pe-2 was attacked by 4 Bf 109 and Vlasenko turned his damaged bomber towards Soviet territory. The Pe-2 finally reached a safe place to land in the area of Svechnikovo - Dolgorukovo. The aircraft burned up on the ground but the wounded Starshina Mikhail Maksimenko was saved from the aircraft. Oblt. Anton Hackl 5/JG 77 Pe-2 (96) 05:20 PlQu. 83554/ Sadonsk (Zadonsk) The time for Hackl’s claim of 05:20 would put it at 06:20 Moscow time. On looking at the PlQu compared to Zadonsk it appears to be in the location described in the Russian report. |

Re: JG 77 victories
11 May 1942
17:45 - 18:40 (M) 12 Yak-1 from 6 IAP led by Mayor Viktor Moiseev (regiment commander) escorted and covered Pe-2 and Il-2 attacking the Kharkov-Central airfield to destroy German aviation there. They encountered Bf 109 from 9./JG 77. Kapitan Viktor Gusarov claimed a Me-109 (no losses by 9/JG 77). They encountered heavy German AAA fire there. The 6 IAP arrived over the target at 18:00 (M) at an altitude of 2000 m. During that time period Oberfeldwebel Wilhelm Baumgartner of 9/JG 77 claimed an I-61 (25) at 17:10 and Oberfeldwebel Reinhold Schmetzer 9/JG 77 claimed an I-61 (31) at 18:20. Losses: Yak-1 6 IAP Mayor Viktor Moiseev (MIA) Yak-1 6 IAP Starshiy Leytenant Boris Biryukov (MIA) Yak-1 6 IAP Starshiy Leytenant Vasiliy Kapustin (MIA) Yak-1 6 IAP Starshiy Leytenant Fedor Kryukov (MIA) Yak-1 6 IAP Leytenant Mikhail Romanov (MIA) So only two reasonable claims that went to 9/JG 77. Also in the OBD Memorial and [url]www.allaces.ru have these losses listed as occurring on the 17 May 1942. I was looking at the Journal of Combat Operations of the Staff 6 IAP 31.03.1942 - 07.12.1943 page 2 TsAMO F; 22344, O: 0222520s, D: 0004, L: 2 and it states they all went missing on the 11 May 1942. I checked the 17 May 1942 and no mention of them, so they did not return to 6 IAP. I assumed that the new 6 IAP commander sent in the wrong information. |

Re: JG 77 victories
11 May 1942
In the period from 04:50 - 09:06 (M) the Soviet VVS sent Pe-2 and Il-2 against the German aviation on the airfield at Kharkov-Central. 6 Yak-1 from 6 IAP provided escort and cover over the target. They arrived over the target at 07:55 (M) at an altitude of 2000 meters. Kapitan Viktor Gusarov claimed a Me-109 in an air battle. Losses: Yak-1 6 IAP Leytenant Ivan Biru’nik (MIA) Yak-1 6 IAP Leytenant Sergey Sokolov - listed as missing but later returned to his regiment. Sokolov would be listed permanently as missing in another mission on the 26 May 1942. German claims: Obgefr. Karl Grummböck 9/JG 77 I-61 (3) 06:00 & I-61 (4) Leutnant Heinz Lüdemann 9/JG 77 I-61 (.) 07:33 There were other Soviet fighter regiments that reported losses this day but no times and no locations for the losses of the single losses of 148 IAP, 186 IAP and the Yak-1 273 IAP. The 9/JG 77 did have other claims for I-61 during this morning befor and after the 6 IAP flight. There were no Bf 109 losses to confirm Kapitan Gusarov’s claim. |

Re: JG 77 victories
Dmitiriy Privet,
Thank you for the Flak claims but there was only 3 Pe-2 reported as lost this day, according to the book “Небо Над Харьковом Май 1942”. Leytenants Boris Kireev and Saveliy Chebykin of 431 ShAP were reported as MIA and Mladishiy Leytenant Andrey Muravskiy of 285 ShAP also MIA. The Yak-1 of Leytenant Mikhail Solyanov 273 IAP was MIA, Mayor Yakov Titaev was MIA and Leytenant Dmitiriy Kol’tsov was MIA. These are among the known to me. I have nothing on the ones that survived with emergency landings. I have read a number of cases that the Flak units inflicted damage and the aircraft on returning were finished off by fighters. Re: JG 77 victories
9 September 1942
The III/JG 77 was attached temporarily attached to JG 54 in the Leningrad sector. Leutnant Horst Marotzke from 7/JG 77 claimed a “LaGG-3” (25) at 08:55 at PlQu 20113 at an altitude of 5 meters. This was possibly the Yak-7B (#2566) flown by AE commander, Kapitan Fedor Filippovich Bendyug of 845 IAP covering the front line of the areas of Mga - Naziya - Zhikharevo. Bendyug was listed as missing but in September 2005 his aircraft and remains were discovered at Zale’s between Vol’kovo and Khotovo. |
