Stearman PT-17 - Morocco 1943 - anti-malaria
Looking for any additional info about 3 Stearman PT-17s and (their) 6 pilots which/who were sent to Morocco (NATOUSA) late 1943 for anti-malaria spraying purposes.
Before operational status could be achieved, the malaria season had nearly passed and only some experimental flights were executed. Not sure if same three PT-17s were shipped to Italy for service with 327th Ferrying Squadron for identical purposes or replaced by other (3) Stearmans. Of the 6 original PT-17 pilots, three had crop dusting experience back in the US. All help welcome, thanks. Regards, Leendert |

Re: Stearman PT-17 - Morocco 1943 - anti-malaria
Two of three likely 42-16655 and 42-16657.
See https://catalog.archives.gov/id/204908955 and https://catalog.archives.gov/id/204908938 RAF Argus in background could be FZ776. PT-17 #655 reported w/o 31 Mar 1946 in Italy. Regards, Leendert |
