German airfield close to Marx
Hi, On 20 April 1945, a/c of n°341 squadron “Alsace” attacked by bombing an aerodrome at (RO832) S.W. Marx. Does anybody know what could be this airfield ? TIA Bertrand |

Re: German airfield close to Marx
The Marx airfield was 18Km S/W of Wilhelnmshaven 53 25 20 N - 07 53 45 E, looking on Google earth it appears to have subsequently been used for gravel extraction. The site of two possible runways can be made out,

Re: German airfield close to Marx
Bertrand,
You may also want to consider the airfields of Brockzetel (8 km east-southeast of Marx; no longer in existence), Wittmundhafen (18 km northwest of Marx), Jever (10 km north of Marx) and Varel (16 km south-southwest of Wilhelmshaven). As Brian suggested, do a search on Google Earth - some 25 km southeast of Marx you will find two more important airfields, i.e. Oldenburg and Bad Zwischenahn. Hope this is of some help. Marc |

Re: German airfield close to Marx
Hello!
Almost certainly Varel....Those two airfields where used together by the III/NJG2 and IV/NJG3 units (mainly Ju-88G nightfighters if I remember correctly). JV |

Re: German airfield close to Marx
Thanks for your replies but does the reference R0832 could be an “allied planquadrat” and so give the exact location of this airfield ?

Re: German airfield close to Marx
I cannot answer about R0832...
The coordinates of Varel A/F are: 53° 22' 17" N 8° 02' 52" E This makes Varel a highly probable candidate for the A/F bombed by the 341 Sqdn "SW of Marx". |
