406th Fighter Group – September 7, 1944 mission.

Hello,

I am looking for information and details about two attacks of the 406th Fighter Group against a German column the 7th of September 1944 on the road between the towns of Châteauroux and Issoudun, in the Center of France. The Distinguished Unit Citation was awarded to the 406th FG for these two decisive missions. For example: the times Up and Down, Squadrons, pilot’s names and planes involved. One P-47 (serial 42-26798) from 512th FS was lost during one of the attacks and I would know more about the circumstances of this loss.
Greetings from France.

Warmest regards,
Frederic Henoff.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your answer but I had already these info. In fact, I am looking for the details of this mission which one finds into the microfilms from the USAF archives relating to the Fighter Group or the Squadrons.
Is there a historian for this FG?

All the best,
Frederic

Frederic- Right now my only suggestion would be to go to following site , look it over. There is a site contact person and message board - maybe you can find a 406th Historian.

www.p47pilots.com/index.cfm

Cheers

Hello
There is very few information into the historical microfilm for that mission, however the pilot loss was most probably the Maj Locke John Langford (EVD)O-23747 he return to the unit the 20th September the same adventure happened to him the 23/8/1944 near Mantes-la-Jolie .
Regards
Phil

Hello,

Thank you to all for your answers.
The few into the microfilm can interest me. Are there the times Up and Down, planes involved, leader for the two missions for example?
I’d like to ask you to explain one thing, Maj. Locke was of which squadron?

All the best,
Frederic.
