Re: C-47 crash on december 6 1944 near A-93 in Belgium

Two C-47s crashed:

42-100892 (5 killed)
https://aviation-safety.net/database...?id=19441206-2
https://www.baaa-acro.com/crash/cras...liege-5-killed

The approach (to Liège-Bierset Advanced Landing Ground A-93) was completed in very bad weather conditions. The aircraft crashed in a field 2,4 km short of runway and was destroyed. All five members were killed.

41-18632 (4 killed)
https://aviation-safety.net/database...?id=19441206-0

https://www.baaa-acro.com/crash/cras...liege-4-killed
(Same description as above but with four killed)

Re: C-47 crash on december 6 1944 near A-93 in Belgium

Alain,

Story gives that name of crew chief, if any, on 1st Lt Lacy C. Myers' (not Mayers) C-47 not known. Airforcehistoryindex has additional name of Phil A. Miller as crew member to make a total of five. He must have survived the crash.

Groet,
Leendert

On the findagrave link Leendert gave for Miller, there is a link to some fold3 details of the crash.
There are also links to info about the crews of both planes at the bottom.

Re: C-47 crash on december 6 1944 near A-93 in Belgium

Contribution on Fold3 somehow doesn't mention T/Sgt Erwin L. Kramer on Weniger's C-47 (see Airforcehistoryindex). According findagrave he also died on 6 Dec 1944 (buried Elmira, NY).

Leendert
