The color of the 12 is imho black and not red (thats wrong in Dr. Priens JFV). Look here:

This is open to argument.

I'd personally say that the dark color used for the tactical marking "12" is not the same as the black of the Balkenkreuz. It could very well be red...it could also be black.

What I'm trying to say is that the first part of your argument contains "IMHO" and rightly so, but yet you clearly finish by adding that Prien is wrong. The answer perhaps is that we cannot be sure based on these photos alone.

We should be a little more careful of using absolutes when discussing opinions different to ours.

...stepping off my soapbox

You can find Priens photo in the JVB part 2/page 245. There you can "think" the number is red, because the sun glance is on this part of the fuselage. Look on the left part of the Balkenkreuz, there it is also bright like the number. Thats why the angle of the broken fuselage is different to the sun. (I hope you understand it with my poor english. *g*) So i think the number is black and not red, and Priens is wrong. ;-)

Look on the photo below on page 245, there it is clear to see that the color of the Balkenkreuz and the tactical number is different.

Have fun!

Just a quick thought, have in mind that the Balkenkreuz was applied in the factory, and the tactical markings when the aircraft arrived in the unit, so different shades of the same color are possible. Off course the sun angle can also do his tricks. A sharp eye you have, Falcon

Steve,
this Bf109E with the STKZ SK+AS is probabley a Bf109 E-3 with the WNr.2442bulit in Messerschmitt Regensburg between 06. & 07.40.
I have also a note for this 109E that it was exported to the Swiss, but I can not confirm this.
In what other codes are you interested?

best regards,
Tomislav

Hi Tomislav,

Many thanks for your information on SK+AS this is most interesting.
The only leads i have for Me109's stkz starting with SK+ are for a batch with the codes SK+CA to SK+CZ W.nr 2711 to 2736.

I also have a general interest in any stkz codes and not just to Me109's,
and particularly seek Me110 and He111 stkz batches.

Regards
Steve.
