How counted the sorties by bomber pilot ?
Hi,
in the book from Ralf Schumann "Ritterkreuzträgger der KG 1" I read following: Fw Günter Kempin has 474 combat sorties (Feindflüge), 50 from these is double combat sortie in the east front. What is it "double combat sortie" (doppelte Einsatz). It is depends from the range of target ?

Re: How counted the sorties by bomber pilot ?
Not exactly. In fact it depended on the duration of the sortie. Sorties exceeding 4 hours were counted as double mission in order to compensate for the higher risks and hazards affected to these long duration missions if compared to the rather short ones, of fighters for instance.
Consequently, even longer missions, which were not usual e.g. with the FW 200 Condor, were taken into account with a value of four times of a "normal" sortie. Greetings, ghost |
