Position CPAV 4440

Hi guys

I would be grateful for an idea as to where Position CPAV 4440 refers.

Thanks in advance

Re: Position CPAV 4440

It is Admiralty Position Code - this changed periodically so needs a date also.

CP44 AV40

Re: Position CPAV 4440

Thanks, Ross

The date in question is 13 August 1940. I hope this will help identify the location.

Cheers

Re: Position CPAV 4440

Cannot help with where - not in the codes I have for period covering Aug to Sept 1940- but I can say not between square bounding

62N 12W - 62N 05E

52N 12W - 52N 05E

Re: Position CPAV 4440

Thanks, Ross

Excuse my ignorance, but would the approximate location therefore be off the coast of Wales or Scotland? Any indication might be helpful.

Cheers

Re: Position CPAV 4440

Far off the west coast if the letters are correct.

i.e. nothing to the east of 12 deg 44 min West or to the West of 05 deg 40 min East

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12th_meridian_west
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5th_meridian_east

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/52nd_parallel_north
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/62nd_parallel_north

A couple of my posts here shows how it works
