Karl Ebbighausen photo
Dear members,
Does anyone have access to personal file of Karl Ebbighausen or other documents that would include his photos? I'm aware of this often published photo: https://me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=5618 but I'm not convinced that it was correctly identified in the past. At least, if this is Ebbighausen, then he apparently doesn't sit in his own aircraft. Furthermore, I'll be thankful for information about his unit affiliation before he was appointed Staka of 4./JG 26 (2nd formation). Thanks and best regards. |

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
Hello Maciej,
Maybe I can reformulate your question and ask who is on the following picture from an old auction?.. Note: they both did like white shirt and tie. Should boost the conversation, who knows? ... Regards, Franck. Last edited by ouidjat; 31st May 2019 at 07:06. |

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
Don Caldwell says photo is Ebbighausen which is good enough for me

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
With all respect to Mr. Caldwell, research never stops, and sometimes things may need to be rewritten when the new evidence appears...

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
Geschichte Eines Jagdgeschwader by Josef Priller published 1956 has between pages 48 and 49 and 112 and 113 photos of Ebbighausen who is identical to the photo in your link. Therefore it is him but maybe not his aircraft-my aim was to confirm it was him

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
Thank you for the tip, I completely forgot I have this book. Indeed, on the photo from p.113 it looks like him. Then apparently not sitting in his a/c. Still wonder where did he serve after coming back from Spain and before being appointed as Staka 4./JG 26 (2nd formation) - there's a gap in the available records for the summer 1939 period, which is the period under this study.

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
From what I can see, his last kill in Spain was 1 May 1939 so it is safe to assume that he was there until the Legion returned to Germany. There were then parades at the start of June 1939, leave, rest and recuperation so perhaps he just went straight to 4./JG 26 from that

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
But there is no evidence that this Miceky Mouse emblem was painted on only one aircraft.

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo
However, both the raging bull emblem and 'Eisern, abe irre!' motto appear only on 5. Staffel aircraft, unless there is something I'm not aware of.
