Re: Me 262 Edelweiss /ebay

This is a nice find if it indeed is the KG(J) 51 Edelweiss emblem. Thus far I saw it only on the aircraft profiles, so it is certainly a novelty for me.

Thank you for the pointer.

Regards,
Sinisa

Hello Rémi,

I believe that the unmarked Fw190 in your Photo#1 was taken at Berlin-Templehof. As no Werknummer, underwing wing racks, nor Morane mast are apparent, determining its exact designation is impossible. Among its treasure trove of interesting details are: a blown canopy; the relatively-rare combination of a plain-black Balkenkreuz and a white-outlined black Hakenkreuz; a white or yellow tipped spinner; and a white or yellow tip on the front surface of its upper metal propeller blade. In addition, its fuselage ETC501 rack is hanging down from its front mounting bracket and it landing gear cover displays the smeared putty application across its bolt attachment holes.

Hello again Rémi,

I forgot to mention the replacement natural metal cowling.

Hi Steve,

From where I sit, the Fw190 also appears to have two ID plates: a rectangular main plate and, right next to it, a rectangular modifications plate.

Steve

PS. And it appears to be another Me262 with no (visible) main plate.

The unit is KG 51, not KG(J) 51.

Hi Steve,

Your two ID plate information makes sense in light of the photo’s location and the fact that Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Berlin-Tempelhof, Flughafen-Neubau (Hersteller code = mck) was rebuilding Fw190s at that location. Also, this aircraft clearly has the appearance of having been rebuilt/refurbished.

Re: Me 262 Edelweiss /ebay

I have published another photo of the same Fw 190 and Me 262 wrecks in my 'Captured Eagles Vol. 1'. It is photo nr. 23 and I can confirm that the photo was taken at Tempelhof. Note the propeller tips that appear to be painted in white or yellow, which is also quite unusual.

Re: Me 262 Edelweiss /ebay

Yes, it should be Tempelhof. Also interesting is one civil Fw 200 from the same seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Sna...item20f124f067
So far I knew of only one captured Lufthansa Fw 200 in American hands: D-AABR "Rheinland" in Pocking, Bavaria. Does anyone know if there was one in Tempelhof, too?

Re: Me 262 Edelweiss /ebay

Post No.6 refers. Needless to say, that is correct - there were KG(J) 6, KG(J) 27, KG(J) 30, KG(J) 54 and KG(J) 55, but KG 51 Edelweiss apparently remained pure Kampfgeschwader in spite of its partial re-equipment with the Me 262 aircraft. Thank you for the correction.
