Flight commanders in 601 Squadron 1942-44?

Can anyone tell me who replaced John Curry and Bruce Ingram at the head of their flights in 1942? I know that Jerry Westenra became a flight commander in February 1943 and John Nicholls in March 1943 (and that Nicholls was replaced with "Babe" Whitamore in April1943?).

Also I know that by March 1944 one of the flights were being led by Ray Henderson but who led them from November 1943 until March 1944? I assume Des Ibbotson succeeded Henserson?

regards

Keith

I can't answer most of your questions Keith, but can tell you that Alan John Radcliffe (A405138) was posted in (from 145 Sqn) as a flight commander on the 13/3/44. Posted out on the 22/7/44.
After a short rest, he commanded 241 Sqn 10/11/44-2/6/45. Awarded the DFC in '45.

Radcliffe appears to have been succeeded by another Aussie, Roderick John MacKenzie (A403376). He was posted in (also ex 145) as a flight commander on the 29/7/44. OTE 2/9/44.

Cheers Bruce, that means Ibbotson and Radcliffe were the flight commanders March to July one of them, probably Ibbotson, succeeded Ray Henderson (KIA 7 Mar. 1944).

best regards, mate

Keith
