390th BG/568thBS airman's service number ?

Hello,

390th BG/568thBS airman's rank & service number ?

Have searched but so far no luck.
Am seeking the Rank and Service Number of this airman.

Wounded in action on the 18th September, 1944 during Operation Frantic VII
.
Born: 9th July, 1920.
He survived the war and passed over on the 8th October, 2010.
From Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina.
He now rests beside his wife (who passed away earlier) in Lafayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville, Cumberland County, N.C.

Name:
Underwood, Robert Earl, crewman in B17, 44-8315 - "P".

Have found a Sgt. Robert Earl Underwood Jr who was Army( 26 Inf, 1 Inf Div, service number 34313137.
Also found a Robert Edmund Underwood who served in the 351st BG born 26th May, 1924. His number was 14187782.

Many thanks
Alex

Re: 390th BG/568thBS airman's service number ?

Hello Dave,
Yes looks like the man, I too could find no other that would fit.
1 Reservist 14091913(A/C) and 10 enlisted 14187782(A/C Edmund - NC); 16042292; 17063862; 31417867; 34313137(Army,NC); 35088942(A/C); 39536431; 395504184; 39559987 and 34677788(NC).

My only other thought is that as he was at some time a Bombardier which was usually a Lt ? So a different service number ?

Thank you,
Alex

Re: 390th BG/568thBS airman's service number ?

Hello,

The Second airman WIA on the same a/c and date was Jack P. Stovall.
He was born on 16th May, 1922 in Florence, Kansas.
Enlisted on 30th June 1942 when resident of Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.
From what I have been able to find on the internet he is still with us at the grand age of 96 years an is at Hampstead, North Carolina.

If possible can someone please confirm that this is correct.

Alex
