Fi 156 use in the Stalingrad pocket
I looked through a magazine on German pilots in WW2 and saw an article about a Fi 156 pilot. Just glancing through he was describing flying out the wounded from inside the pocket in his Fi 156. Could this have been possible?

Re: Fi 156 use in the Stalingrad pocket
I know that Manstein and Paulus exchanged liaison officers with Storch in December, when Hoth tried to join the surrounded 6th Army. So flying to Stalingrad and back with some passengers was possible.
There (if you register) is a picture of a Stroch evacuation wounded of 71.ID in Stalingrad, but before the 6th Army was surrounded (in Sep 1942): http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ersheim&page=2 |

Re: Fi 156 use in the Stalingrad pocket
Thanks Laurent. I'll have to pick up a copy on my next trip. I remember a part of it that he was stuck in Stalingrad with a cracked engine block. They were going to send him a new engine and a mechanic. He said that a Ju 52 pulled up on the runway in the snow and shoved the motor out the door with out stopping before take off.
