Hi all,

On 29 April 1940 JU 52 Werk nr 5153 of III/KGr zbv 1 was lost off the coast of "Kilhina" or "Kiltina" due to engine failure I believe.
Does anyone have more details of this loss, crew, passenger losses etc.

Thanks for any possible help,

Zippy

Addition :

In the JU 52 loss list the year is partially obscured and only" 29.04.19--" can be read so it may have been lost on the same date later in the war.

Re: JU 52 loss 29 April 1940

I've found that the year of loss was 1942 and the island was "Kithina" but the only Kithina I can find is in Kenya which is obviously not the location.

5153 Ju52/3mge D-AX?? Junkers 29.04.1942: III./K.G.z.b.V.1 bei der Insel Kithina Notlandung auf See infolge Motorenstörung (100% zerstört)

Hi Zippy

I'm afraid the year you list is wrong
I have the following details right now
w/o 29.4.42 into sea near Kithina (Kythira as per Byron) Island (engine problems)

Cheers
Stig

Re: JU 52 loss 29 April 1940

Hello Zippy,

in the GQM two Ju 52 5152 are listed.
GQM 6 May 1942 item 129:
29.4. 12./K.G.z.b.V. 1 bei Insel Kithira Notlandung auf See, Besatzung unverletzt. Ju 52 5152 100%. Handwritten addition: loss category 22 = destroyed without enemy action on a non-operational flight / Totalverlust bei Ausbildungs- und sonstigem Flug ohne Feindauftrag.
GQM 7 Sep 1943 item 115:
25.8. San.Flugber. 3 Poltawa, Rollschaden Ju 52 5152 20%.
The WNr. 5152 in the 6 May 1942 entry is a typo.

Regards
Leo
