Kurt Knappe and JG2
Hello all
Deemed to be credited with 56 "abschusse" including 5 with JG2 by many sources(ex.Obermaier...on the net...),the distribution of these seem to be fuzzy. I have: (52.) 30/12/42=B-17 QU 5813/14 West (source Prien in JFV #7 p.291) Then,it's confused ( .) 06/03/43=B-17 (source Wood) (a) ( .) 28/06/43=B-17 (source Wood) ( .) 03/09/43=B-17 (source Wood) (a) does not seem to be the version of Prien.no claim that day. One/Two is missing Someone would have the detail of these 5 claims,or these would be limited to only 3/4? Michel |

Re: Kurt Knappe and JG2
Hi Michel
Obtained from the mikrofilms, and by myself only, I found 51 confirmed claims for Knappe with 5./JG51, then with 7./JG2:- 30th December 1942 B-17 1145 hrs 5000 metres Nr.52 6th March 1943 Stirling 1511 hrs 4000 metres Nr.53 28th June 1943 B-17 1903 hrs 50 metres! Nr.54 With 10./JG 2 a B-17 Paris area 0950 hrs 6000 metres Nr.55 Two unconfirmed:- 29th May 1942 unknown Russian type 2nd September 1943 Spitfire Bethune area 2025 hrs Answer to the confusing is only fifty-five "kills". It's a bit like Erwin Lastowski, everything we have known before suggested forty-six "kills", yet mikrofilms state fifteen, as does his flugbucher……….things just gets duplicated, mistakes and all. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Kurt Knappe and JG2
Of interest, in my recent photo book on the Fw 190 there is a photo of 7./JG 2 taken in Nov 42 in which Knappe figures
