Who shot down the Anson?

Hi guys

Still trying to get to the bottom of the 23 September 1940 Anson/Bf109 incident over the Channel. Any ideas as to who attacked/shot down the Anson? And did a Bf109 ditch/crash into the Channel during this operation?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Who shot down the Anson?

Hi,
Do you mean Anson N4914 of 1 CACU that was damaged by 4 Bf 109's over the English Channel and later crash landed at East Langdon, in Kent . Or anotherAnson ?
Details from "The Anson File"
JG26 lost two to fighters but claimed quite a few this day.

Re: Who shot down the Anson?

Hi Alex

No thanks, I've a copy of Don Caldwell's book that gives the details. I note both were shot down during the morning op, whereas the Anson was attacked during the afternoon. Hopefully someone knows more.

Cheers

Re: Who shot down the Anson?

Hi guys

It has been suggested that the Anson may have been attacked by Fw Eberhard von Boremski of 9/JG3, claimed as a Blenheim shot down at 1405, although recorded as 24 September (in error?) not 23 September. Any comments from the more knowledgeable?

Cheers
Brian

Brian-some records say Boremski's victim was T1794/139 Sqn/24 Sep 40. Trouble with this Anson is if the German victor did not see it crash, he would not have claimed it as a kill
