Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

Hi Guys,

This is a long shot but thought I would ask the question anyway; On the night of 6-7th October 1944 a V1 carrying He 111 was shot down into the North sea by a No. 25 Squadron Mosquito. I am searching for the loss details of the Heinkel to pass onto a relative of the Mosquito pilot who shot it down.

Any clues to it's identity would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Melvin

Re: Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

Bit of confusion here. Would this be Marshall of 25 Sqn 6-7 Oct? If so Could be 5K+LS of 8/KG 3 even though the pilot, Uffz Klaus Schulte, said there were lost due to engine trouble. Also, NVM says 7 Oct but K Report says they were fished out of the sea 50 miles of Great Yarmouth 1400 hrs 6 Oct 44 which matches with the claim of Jones of 25 Sqn 5-6 Oct 44

Re: Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

Just to add what Chris said despite the NVM giving the date for 5K+LS as the 7th Oct. the first K report gives the loss as due to the port engine catching fire at 1930 hrs on the 5th, with no attack taking place. The K also says they were picked up at 1400hrs on the 6th, Essex police shows the 3 survivors as being accomodated at Harwich Police station at 2320hrs on the 6th and entrained for London the next day at 1055hrs.
F/Lt Marshall of 25 Sqd.submitted a claim for a He111 at 1954hrs in N8090 on the 6/7th, there is a NVM for 5K+KS crew of Ltn. Bohne who made a Notlandung by Venlo on the 6th Oct. - Am 6.1044 nach Feindflug durch beschuss zur Notlandung gezwungen. Besatzung wurde dabei verletzt (leicht).

Hi Chris & Brian,

Thank you both for your help, the He 111 was attacked by F/Lt A. E. Marshall so presume it was the Heinkel of Lt. Bohne! Brian do you have the NVM report?

Regards,

Melvin

Re: Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

I'm not sure if the attached help.

In addition, CX/MSS/T331/127 includes this:
The crew which in report of 7/10 was indicated as missing made an emergency landing in Kessel, 11 km SW of Venlo, after being shot up from the sea. Crew uninjured.
Trouble is, the report of 7/10 either isn't on the file or I missed it.

Not convinced that this crew was a potential victim of Marshall as NVM makes no mention of night fighter attack

Re: Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

Would 'durch Beschuss' possibly indicate enemy fire ? Marshall does claim his target disintegrated and part of it fell burning in a shallow dive . No other NVM for this night apart from Bohne's was sent, the next two are dated 8-10-44 one says details unknown and the other crashed by Groet/Nord Holland.

Re: Heinkel He 111 loss October 1944

My point is NVMs normally say whether it was enemy, friendly or night fighter fire which caused the damage. Also it would appear that Marshall's claim doesn't match the facts-no He 111s disintegrated or fell burning into the sea

No idea, never done much work on this. It was just some material I happened to have.
