Operation Anklet

During Operation Anklet Allied force consisting of:
- cruiser ARETHUSA
- destroyers ASHANTI, BEDOUIN, SOMALI
- escort destroyers KRAKOWIAK (Polish), KUJAWIAK (Polish), LAMERTON, WHEATLAND
- corvettes ACANTHUS (Norwegian), EGLANTINE (Norwegian)
- minesweepers HALCYON, HARRIER, SPEEDWELL
- survey ship SCOTT
- tankers BLACK RANGER, GREY RANGER
- landing ships PRINCESS CHARLOTTE, PRINS ALBERT
- auxiliary ship GUDRUN MAERSK
- tug JAUNTY
was attacked and bombed by German seaplanes. According to Polish sources one enemy plane was downed.

In German sources I was able to find that on 27 XII 41 one He.115 was lost in Vestfjorden:
- He.115B 1./KüGr 406 (W.Nr. 1888; K6+LH), none personal injured

Can anyone confirm that this He.115 was lost due to enemy action and add any details about German air raid on Allied ships?!

Thanks in advance for any help!
Andrzej

Seaplanes will become famous soon enough
Re: Operation Anklet

He 115B W.Nr. 1888 K6+LH of 1./406 was shadowing a british convoy when hit by anti aircraft fire from the ships. The pilot tried to make a forced landing in open sea some 30-40 km south-west of Bodø. Unfortunately, the plane crashed during the landing. The observer, Lt.z.See Klaus-Walter Neumerkel was missing, while the pilot, Fw. Werner Vorkauf and the wireless operator, Uffz. Hugo Dudeck, both were found dead. I am certain that the aircraft was shadowing ships in connection with "Anklet".

Re: Operation Anklet

Dear Seaplanes,

thank you for your quick reply!
I presume you are talking about north-west of Bodø?!
Do you know whether there was any air raid conducted against Allied shipping or there was only this reconnaissance sortie?!
