Stormfighter is on a distinguished road
Feldwebel Friedrich Möller Victories, JG 77 & 51

I recently acquired the Wehrpass (Military Service Record Booklet) and documents of Feldwebel Friedrich Möller, who served with the 2./J.G. 77 (2nd Squadron of Fighter Wing 77) from 9 March to 30 November 1940; this unit was used to form the 11./J.G. 51 on 1 December 1940. Feldwebel Friedrich Möller served with this Staffel (Squadron), part of the IV. Gruppe (IVth Group) of Jagdgeschwader 51 from 1 December 1940 to 10 April 1941, when he was shot down by Pilot Officer Peter Chesters at Frost Farm, St. Nicholas-at-Wade, Kent, England. Sadly, following Chesters' victory over Möller, he attempted a victory roll over the Manston Airbase at low-level, and as a result, crashed and was killed.

Before Feldwebel Friedrich Möller was shot down by Chesters, he claimed the downing of two Spitfires, one on 4 September 1940 and one on 5 March 1941. I believe that Möller probably served as a wingman, especially because he flew 208 combat missions against England, but had only two victories.

I would be thrilled if someone could identify the Spitfire pilots who Möller downed. I have no idea of the location of his 4 September 1940 victory. I only know that Möller was a pilot with the 2./J.G. 77 and that the downing occurred at 1415. I sure would like to know where the downing took place, the name of the pilot, his unit, and his fate.

Feldwebel Friedrich Möller's victory of 5 March 1941 may be a bit easier to identify. It appears that he was flying in a Schwarm (element of four aircraft) of the IV. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 51, which bounced some Spitfires near Boulogne, France, at 8,200 meters (see the list of claims below). I assume it's possible to determine which Spitfire fighter unit was flying near Boulogne, France, at 1445 on 5 March 1941, and which pilots were lost. I also assume the Spitfire pilots were all from the same unit. Since Möller claimed the first victory at 1445, it may perhaps be easier to identify the pilot he shot down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Barry

Which pilot he shot down on the 5Mar41 would be hard for me to say. Circus 6 near Boulogne has 4 Sptfire IIa as losses. P/O M.C.W. Ormond in P7752 was a POW, P/O R.E. Owen in P7596 (KIA), P/O N.G. Drever in P8027 was a POW, Sgt S. Hamer in P7501 was killed in a crash landing at Wilmington, Sussex.
