Oblt W. Perzelt (8./KG 1) and Ju 88 A-4 werknummer 3799
Good night for all.
Oberleutnant W. (Wolfgang? Walter?) PERZELT (Beobachter) was killed on the 28th May 1942, near Lake Ladoga, on board of Ju 88 A-4, werkummer 3799. With him were the pilot, Obfw. H. Beck; the Bf, Uffz. H Jaeger and Bs, Uffz H Loo. I would like to know the code of this machine and, maybe, the full names of the crew. Was the cause of the accident/loss Flak? Damage? or Fighters? There is no more information on the huge Officers list of De Zeng. Thanks in advance, for any help on that crew/machine. Adriano B. |

MATTI,
THANK YOU so much. I acquired a picture from Perzelt, thence my interest in knowing more about him and his last flight, etc. Really appreciated! Wish you all the best. Adriano B. |

Adriano,
You may be interested to know that "Nasja" in the loss record refers to either the river Naziya (Russian: река На́зия, Finnish: Naasianjoki) or the village of the same name on modern maps. Warm regards, Paul |

Adriano,
In the Soviet front newspaper it was written that on May 28, 1942 the pilot MiG-3 the lieutenant P. Ya. Likholetov (the 159th Fighter Regiment) shot down near Kobona - Lavrovo one Ju-88. Three Germans (the pilot, the radio operator and the shooter) were taken prisoner. Oleg |

Re: Oblt W. Perzelt (8./KG 1) and Ju 88 A-4 werknummer 3799
Oleg,
Thank you for this very interesting newspaper extract. Did other Soviet pilots apart from Likholetov make claims too? Other forum members might be interested to know that Petr Yakovlevich Likholetov (Russian: Пётр Я́ковлевич Лихоле́тов) was a famous ace of the 159th fighter regiment. He claimed 19 individual and 5 shared victories before being badly wounded in combat in June 1944, presumably by Finnish Messerschmitt 109s. He died from complications arising from his injuries on 13 July 1945. The highest-scoring ace of the 159th regiment, Vladimir Georgievich Serov (Russian: Влади́мир Гео́ргиевич Серо́в) was killed in action on 26 June 1944, during the same period of heavy fighting which culminated with the Battle of Tali-Ihantala. Returning to the events of 28 May 1942, the villages of Kobona (Russian: Кобо́на) and Lavrovo (Russian: Лавро́во) are located along the eastern shore of Shlisselburg Bay (Russian: Шлиссельбу́ргская Губа́). It is therefore possible that the Naziya referred to in the German report is the former workers settlement at coordinates 59°50'N 31°35'E, not the older village at coordinates 59°54'N 31°20'E, near the mouth of the river of the same name. Regards, Paul |

Re: Oblt W. Perzelt (8./KG 1) and Ju 88 A-4 werknummer 3799
Dear OLEG and Paul Thompson,
I do thank you for the additional information. Am really a "beginner" regarding the EASTERN Front activities (my focus is the RAF and LW on the Western Front....Coastal Command, Bomber Command, etc.). I found (see other thread just posted about the 28th May 1942 LW losses over the Leningrad front) that 4 GIAP KBF fought that day, claiming 13 victories (11 confirmed). Your information about the 159th Fighter Regiment is a fresh one and very interesting, since the LW (JG 3 and JG 51) claimed a couple of MIG-1 that day... Paul, the coordinates and information regarding the Naziya location was most welcomed too. I thought, while cross-checking at Google Maps that it was indeed the village near the mouth of the river, on the South and right bank of Lake Ladoga... Most gratefully, Adriano B. |
