Re: Non-standard Lw codes on a CRDA Cant Z.506 in Greece

Sorry to revive this thread, but in my "quest" to find more examples of the "WL+23-xx" code, I've found another one...

According to the source of the photo attached, this Fiat Cr.42 coded "WL+23-106" since late 1943 belonged to a Luftwaffe training school apparently based in Salonicco.

The Italian pilot shown in the photo managed to flee to Grottaglie (not sure if with this very aircraft or not) and later operated with the Italian Cobelligerent Air Force.

However, here we have another example and the numeration seems to follow a simple ordinal method, with the first part clearly(?) identifying the number 23 as related to Italian aircraft, or so it seems...

Hope to follow with further examples.

I found this in ULTRA from October 1940:
CX/JQ/359
21. An a/c [aircraft] marked WL+EPT left on 5/10/40, at 1000 hours, Eindhoven for Calais. On 8/10, Eindhoven was anxious for news since a/c had not arrived at Calais.

Re: Non-standard Lw codes on a CRDA Cant Z.506 in Greece

Thanks Nick

However this is a 1940 WL-Exxx aircraft obviously having not yet received either its STKZ or reverted back to its D-Exxx registration. Ultra seems to have missed one letter in its registration.

Cheers
Stig

Hi nick
I know this is a late response to your question/answer but I thought that it might keep the Post live.
The reg you quote is only in part - do you mean WL-EEPT or WL-EPT?

Thanks - Regards
Tom
