Norwegian Pilots in Luftwaffe

Hi Guys !
I just found a News paper article from August 1943 .
The article is about 8 Norwegian Pilots in LW , thay was in the same unit / group and placed at the Canal Coast .
I dont know anything more about this group except the name of one of the Pilots .
Arne Halvorsen .

Does any of You have any info about Norwegian pilots in Luftwaffe ?
What unit they was in , the name of the other 7 pilots , what kind of plane they flying .

I post the article , but text is in Norwegian .

This is my first post in this Forum , so I hope that You accept that my English in not the best .

Re: Norwegian Pilots in Luftwaffe

Jan Arne,
I am not an expert on Norwegian Luftwaffe pilots, but I would consult the book: Neulen, Hans Werner, In the skies of Europe : Air forces allied to the Luftwaffe 1939-1945 (2000).

Regards

Re: Norwegian Pilots in Luftwaffe

there is a web site with info on most of the Norwegian pilots, for both sides

from what I remember, they were not all in at the same time, same unit, so that may be a training center type deal

(I lost my HD and most of my sites, so I can't tell you where it is at)
(if someone else knows, I wouldn't mind finding it again

They were not pilots! Flieger is the same as a private, the lowest rank in Luftwaffe! They were probably attached to a FLAK-unit! As far as i know there were no Norwegian pilots in the Luftwaffe. A very few became crewmembers on bombers!

Re: Norwegian Pilots in Luftwaffe

Interesting topic.

That latter guy definitely seems to be a pilot, but I agree with Junker that the others in all likelihood were attached to a Flak unit or some other ground-based unit. Even so, the first article begins with "From somewhere on the Channel front, we eight Norwegian pilots, ...". This may be caused by the editor doing a direct translation of the rank "Flieger"?

It is almost fun to read these old newspapers as they so clearly belong to a different time. Both, especially the first article, are filled with propaganda and expressions we wouldn't use today (there's reference to the "English sickness", "jewish capitalism" and "the infernal bolshevism")! Interestingly, the first article refers to the parents not understanding what their youngs boys are up to!

Thanks for this newspaperclip. I have never heard of this guy! Is it possible to get a scan of the whole article? And what is the date/year? I'm able to read it as I am from Denmark!

Re: Norwegian Pilots in Luftwaffe

Hi Guys !
Thanks !
The article is from 11.des. 1944 .
I have about 1400 period Norwegian News Papers .
I will scan the rest of the article the coming weekend .

And here is Pilot no. 2 .
No photo of this guy , his name is Rudolf Bratteng from Bergen .
He had served 2. mounths in Tunisia and later in the fights over Sicily. Article is from 2. mars 1944 . Sems like he could be a 2.Pilot or Co. Pilot .

Thank's this is highly interesting. Untill now I only knew of Harald Hougen who was Bordschütze in KG 30 and Alf Lie who did some flighttraining with FFS A 43 but ended up with the Fallschirmjäger. Both were sentenched to 3 years in prison after the war!
