Gefr Willi Pernau - 4./KG54

Hi all,

According to Radtke, Gefr Willi Pernau of 4./KG54 was killed on May 19th 1940 in the Lille area. However, I can't seem to find his name on the VDK website so I think Radtke misspelled his name. Does anyone have the correct name of this Bordfunker?

Thanks in advance,
Rudi.

Re: Gefr Willi Pernau - 4./KG54

Rudi,

Bordfunker Uffz Willi PERNAU 60028/37 b.9.7.1917 Skoeppen/Ostpr. That is how the name is recorded in the NVM which also notes him as killed. The relevant A.I.1(k) Report No.107/1940 also spells it PERNAU but records him as only being wounded. As you say, he does not figure in the VDK database but possibly because his grave is not administered by them ?

Re: Gefr Willi Pernau - 4./KG54

Peter,

Thanks for the info. Yes, that's a possibility.

On the VDK site you can call up a list of names of KIA people born in the same village/city. I've tried Skoeppen, but that town doesn't seem to be recorded. I've tried a variety of combinations of that name and the following towns do exist:
Skoppen, Sköpen, Schoppen, Schöpen & Schopen.
None of them however list someone born 9/7/1917.

I'll send a mail to the VDK. Maybe they can help.

Regards,
Rudi.
