Do217 II/KG40 lost 21 August 1941 and 5 February 1942

Can anyone give me details of this aircraft, lost after an attack by a 257 Squadron Hurricane off Lowestoft at 2110 (Fighter Command War Diaries Vol.2)

I am also looking for details of a second Do217 of 5./KG40 lost off Spurn Head on 5 February 1942 to Hurricanes of 253 and Spitfires of 133 Squadrons (FCWD Pt.3)

regards

Keith

Leo

I don't have any Do 217 WNr 99 in my files.
Which aircraft was that?

Cheers

Re: Do217 II/KG40 lost 21 August 1941 and 5 February 1942

Hi Stig,

I have quoted the entry in the Verlustmeldung of the Gen.Qu. „99“, which is of course an incomplete Werknummer. In comparison with other Do 217 E-1 losses the complete Werknummer was either 1099 or 5099.

Regards
Leo

Re: Do217 II/KG40 lost 21 August 1941 and 5 February 1942

In the Gen.Qu. loss report from 7 February 1942 No. 6 is listed "Do 217 E-4 5337".
In the correction from 24 February 1942 k) is noted:
"Ändere Werknummer 5337 in: 5357".

Cheers

Thanks Leo

Yes it seems it has to be one of those two. Always good with some kind of back up...

Cheers
